MARRIAGE The first step towards marriage is traditionally intermediation. The go-between is usually a kind, elderly person who has many acquaintances. For his services, he would be offered betel, tea,or a suit of silt clothes after the wedding Intermediation is followed by betrothal, choosing of the wedding day, engagement ceremony and finally the wedding itself, During the wedding party, the bridegroom wears a wide tunic of royal blue a black turban and white trousers. The bride wears a red tunic, white trousers and a yellow 'queen style' turban, which resembles and aureole, like the hairstyle on status of the goddess juno. The procession which accompanies the bride to her husband's house is headed by beautiful old women in wide green tunics red turbans, carrying lacquered betel boxes. They are followed by old men in traditional costume also wearing red turbans, then old women in green turbans, and the bridesmaids in light green and light yellow tunics.
